How Big Was the World’s Population When You Were Born?

The world’s population hit 7 billion this month. Go to this interactive page to learn about the world’s population on your birth date, and how different parts of the world were growing.

The data for the interactive page are from the UN Population Division, which began collecting population data in 1950. Data for pre-1950 population are less accurate, and also not assimilated at the country level, which resulted in difficulty ino accommodating earlier dates in the interactive. The model also probably differs slightly from the UN’s, which means that certain milestone dates when the population passed 4 billion, 5 billion etc. won’t exactly match up.
